The Dorm.

I have toured different colleges and have seen many different dorms, but none of the many dorms have compared to the dorms that I now reside at. I live in the Upper East Side on 3rd and 97th. The building is owned by a company called EHS (Educational Housing Services.) The dorms allow for students of different colleges or interns coming to New York for maybe just a semester.

Baruch College has contracted two and a half full floors through EHS, therefore those floors are entirely Baruch students. Our school is full of students that commute to and from school, therefore living at a dorm allows for us to bond and creates more of a "college" environment. Now for the details..

My roommate: I am beyond lucky to have been roomed with my roommate, Polina. We both are on the same page with how we want the dorm environment to be. It's absolutely awesome how we have created an environment that resembles more of an apartment rather than a dorm. Plus, we both have the same love for Nutella. For example, she texted me yesterday saying that she would "be home" later that night. As lame as it may sound, reading that was surprisingly refreshing. It's funny to think of our dorm as a home. I look forward to a year of "dorming" with Polina. It has been a positive experience so far.

My hall-mates/dorm-mates/neighbors: Well, I have not met everyone on my floor (15th) or the 16th floor, but everyone that I have met are pretty nice. I often will run into them at school which is super awesome, because it creates an automatic bond when not at the dorm. The only complaint that I would have with living at the dorm would be the person/people that whistle at 11:30 on a Tuesday night in the hallways. If you are one of them... -.- It's not that it is loud or that I can't stand the sound of whistling, it's unnecessary. ESPECIALLY when I'm trying to fall asleep and I hear "The Whistler" in the hallways. If you are "The Whistler," I will treat you to a cup of coffee from my Keurig, if you kindly limit the whistling. :)

The facilities: I am loving how modern everything is. The furniture is extremely modern, thus creating a nice environment to study or socialize in. There are flat screen TV's in random locations that any student is free to use. In the basement, there is a nice game room complete with a pool table, a poker table, an air hockey table, and two TV's. We also have a 24/7 gym with multiple machines that all feature their own TV for your own viewing please while working out. I have not tested these great machines out yet, but I'm sure that they are awesome. Lastly, we have a huge laundry facility for everyone in the residence. While it is unfortunate that we still have to pay for each load, the machines text us when our laundry is done!! WHAT!

This dorm is amazing and is in a safe neighborhood. We have security on duty 24/7 along with turnstiles that prevent non-residents entering without being signed in. Our dorm is just three blocks away from Central Park and one block away from the subway. I am extremely happy that I am "dorming" at 1760 Third Avenue. For those of you that may be curious and want to maybe write me a letter or whatever, my address is below! Before I get commented on how I shouldn't post my address, this address is default for the 1,000 students at this resident. The only difference is that it includes my room number which can't be accessed without signing into the building.

The topic for tomorrow's post will be a SURPRISE! Woo! Surprise as in I have not decided what I will blog about yet. But, I'm sure it will be more entertaining than the description of my dorm building. :) Stay tuned!
